Customer Reviews
Overall rating: 4.5 / 5 from 24 reviews.
I need a way to attach my cell phone (camera) to my spotting scope for bird photography. My previous adapter worked, but had some flaws: the suction cup lost its grip after a while, risking dropping the phone on rocks, mud, etc. The eyecup attachment was very tight and hard to put in place, risking damaging the (expensive) eyepiece. Also, I needed a different phone case since the adapter didn't work with a pop socket.
The Apexel adapter solved these issues.
The robust spring loaded clamps are quick and easy to use and I have confidence that my phone will not be dropped. Works with pop socket in place. The remote shutter release is a bonus. Excellent price point compared to other systems. Looks like it would work with a variety of phones.
Highly recommended.
This is exactly what I needed for capturing great pictures and videos! Design: there are 2 learning curves; one being able to align the product with your phone lense & two being, holding the binoculars without adjusting the view you’re trying to capture. Highly recommend watching the product instructions video but overall it’s a very beneficial product to capture amazing content without losing quality when zooming in on a general phone
I just bought this item and thought I'd write a review of this adapter. I found it was very sturdy right out of the box, didn't feel like it was going to fall apart or break. It took a few minutes to orientate myself on how to put it onto my phone and then attach to the assembly to the telescope. It was pretty intuitive to use and I enjoyed the pictures that I was able to take with it. Is a pretty hefty piece of equipment so make sure that your telescope can handle the excess weight. Once on the telescope it was easy to use and was stable while holding the eyepiece. I got some nice pictures and I'm very pleased with the product. I'd encourage anyone to buy this adapter.
This is great if your phone camera lenses aren't protruding a lot, like in the newer iPhones, iPhone15&15 Pro in my case. It could still work if you have a fat phone case that makes the phone camera lenses less protruding, like on my old iPhone XR. It is a good idea with that big caveat. If you can get it to work for your phone, it is actually quicker to mount and align than many than many other adapters I've seen.
It's not perfect, but it does work. I could not get this to fit snugly enough so that my iPhone 14 lens was close enough to my either my binoculars or my Nocs monocular eyepieces to prevent light-leaks in low lighting. Also, unless I zoomed, I got a hard vignette on the photo. I'm pretty sure, however, that it will be more successful on my telescope because of how it mounts and how the circular foam piece will work with it.
I've attached photos from my iPhone. The indoor photo let tons of light in and mostly took a photo of the iPhone lens, so maybe I will try to pad it out like another reviewer explained that they did and see if that helps. The outdoor photos were clearer but I had to zoom the phone to get rid of the black edge.
All of the photos had an unwanted reflection of some sort or other.
Not perfect, but a fun accessory that I hope will work better with some futzing to make the lens sit closer to the eyepiece of my Nocs and binocs
Used this with my Iphone 14 ProMax. I had to use one of the provided foam pads to get my phone flush inside of it due to the raised lenses on my phone. The first few times took a little fidgeting to get the lens centered but it got real easy after a while. The phone had trouble at certain zoom levels as it seemed like it wanted to use multiple lenses to render the image. We were able to get some great pictures through our Vortex Diamondback 10X42 binoculars after a little experimentation.
Though the suggested use for this eyepiece mount is binoculars, my experience is that it doesn't have the gripping force to maintain proper alignment with your optical device unless that device is held perfectly still. For my use with a microscope, however, it was quite adequate once I got it properly positioned. I've included a photo of a prepared slide of a liver fluke to demonstrate its effectiveness. As mentioned, though, while the phone is held very securely, the rigidity of the attachment to the other device is so poor that any tap on your screen to take a picture will likely disturb the alignment and result in blurred or off-centered images. To alleviate this, the kit includes a Bluetooth shutter contoller, which I found indispensable.
While it's possible to get good results with this device, I expect there's a better engineered version of the concept that you'd be happier with.
I was hesitant on purchasing a cheap phone adapter but it worked great. Even if your phone has multiple lenses it will use just one so make sure you adjust it to the correct lens. Picture was from 3.5 miles away through a Vortex Diamond spotting scope.
The adapter takes a bit of tinkering to get everything aligned properly, but when it's aligned, it works great. The adapter holds the phone lens slightly at a distance, so I needed to zoom my iPhone 13's camera quite a bit to capture a good sized image. The remote works flawlessly and is definitely necessary because touching the phone even a tiny bit while installed on the telescope causes the image to wobble quite a bit and takes a few seconds to stabilize, so the included remote is a must. I've attached a picture of the eclipse I took with this holder, the results are not perfect and I must admit it was a bit hard to finely adjust my telescope's focus all the time, so part of the picture's fuzziness might come from my telescope, but all in all I'm quite happy with the results.
This looked easy out of the box with the spring clamp for the eyepiece on your device. A solid five stars for the mounting to device design. Getting it to line up with the phone lens was quite a bit trickier and took some time and patience.
As others have noted, the pressure points are near the phone's buttons, though the clamp is concave and mostly avoids contact once fully seated. Had to reverse the direction of the camera aperture to get the slide clamp to work with my iPhone 14-Pro Max with case. It did fit in here and took some time to line everything up. The good news with this mount versus others is this is a one-shot deal. Once set, everything clamps in place correctly and requires no further adjustment.
The remote shutter control connects within a couple of seconds and is a must when using telephoto. Trying to hit the photo button on your phone induces shaking, no matter how deft your touch. The remote works perfectly and gives me crystal clear photos.
Took a few shots of the bees pollinating my peach tree for the photos here. The full frame peach tree is the actual distance without my spotter scope.
Overall, I am very pleased with this, but the directions supplied are not helpful. You pretty much need to figure this out for your set-up on your own and give yourself at least an hour to do that.
Well designed holds onto the microscope well, the weight of the phone does pull the adapter at an very slight angle but still the best adapter i have used. The sponge piece are useful for cusioning the microscope lens and making the fit more secure.
This is an interesting idea to help with taking pics through binoculars or a telescope and it works, as you can see in the pics. The main thing it does is hold the phone still so you can get the photos.
The hardest part is getting the phone into the holder without hitting any of the buttons. It will take some time to figure that out and to use the included spacers.
It does what it’s supposed to but think there’s room for improvement. Especially for iPhones.
An excellent adapter to capture long distance photos of birds and nature with your phone without the expense of telephoto lenses! I attached my phone to a Bushnell spotting scope and the optical performance is outstanding — images came out sharp and clear. A very clever gadget!"
I tested this briefly at school on one of our microscopes and it was not an overall positive experience the first time.
It was somewhat awkward to open and fit the phone in so that it was aligned with a lens on the phone and then did not seem to hold position as well and even testing multiple views through various lenses on the microscope could not seem to get the phone to focus in correctly with this.
While the concept is great it was not simple so I will have to test out a few other ways to see if I can get it set up better to stay in position and allow the phone to focus.
Much lighter and easier to use than heavy, bulky adapters, while remaining far sturdier than cheap single-hinge models! It is smartly designed to hold the phone securely in position without unnecessary weight or bulk. Easily one of the best optical phone adapters for the price!
n general, I like this cell phone adapter for taking photos through a telescope for several reasons: One, it puts the clamp up at the top, which avoids the problem with many others where the clamp hits the on/off button or volume buttons.
Secondly, it has a unique way to be able to slide the phone back and forth across the eyepiece - vital for me, as my Pixel 7 wants to switch between normal and zoom cameras without warning for some reason. And I need to be able to slide it back and forth at times.
Thirdly, it also allows you to swap orientation, just by rotating it the top portion relative to the clamp - just grab your phone and turn it - it will rotate and then snap into a new position every 90 degrees. Definitely a nice feature.
One downside is that the clamp screw can really only be accessed if the phone is oriented one way. In the other direction the screw cannot be turned. Minor issue, but an issue.
Also, forget using this with 2" eyepieces or any 1.25" eyepiece that is not straight at the top. So you're really limited to things like Plossls, Kellners and similarly designed ones. Higher end eyepieces - where you have more eye relief, which is helpful for items like this - are going to be tough if not impossible to use if they have any kind of significant eyecup or angled chamfer at the top. There's not enough clamp depth in this item to work for that.
One last thing, and this is not a flaw, merely a feature: If your phone's camera won't center, take the phone out and re-attach it 180 degrees on the clamp. Mine wouldn't center the camera lens over the hole opening until I did that, because it is limited in how far it will go in one direction based on how the clamp works. Flip it, and it should slide enough then to center over the clamp/eyepiece hole.
I look forward to getting some lunar photos with it as soon as my skies clear up.
I purchased this as a gift for my boyfriend's birthday. We have gotten into birding and would find ourselves holding our phone while the other held the binoculars to take zoomed-in photos. As amateurs who aren't quite ready to spend money on expensive equipment, I thought this would be a great solution for our travels. He loved it! It honestly worked better than I expected for the price. It was super easy to fit on to the phone and holds quite steady. These are some pictures he was able to get on the first try, really a great value!
For my safari, I wanted a cheap way to photograph even more distant animals with my mobile phone. The adapter works surprisingly well for this.
A bit of practice at home, you quickly figure out how to position your mobile phone. Simply find the lens that is used at 1 to 1.2 x zoom and adjust it so that it is visible through the hole in the middle. Then use the other clip to attach the adapter to the lens, done. After a few times, it's quick and easy.
If the binoculars have “peekers” that can be turned in and out, then turn them in!
The results are good, but when it comes to image quality, they are never due to the adapter, but to the cell phone or binoculars, as the adapter only conveniently connects the two devices.
Conclusion: absolutely recommendable for the price.
I'm a stargazer and I love to take pictures. That said I don't want to invest loads of money to support my hobby. I have a set of Vortex binoculars and I wanted to take some pictures with my iPhone 12. This adapter is exactly what I needed to complete my set up. I use a tripod, the binoculars, the Apexel adaptor and a flat tripod mount. As you can see it makes zooming into the subject easy. The Apexel adapter is so easy to use and I can have my whole set up done in minutes. Excellent purchase.
I tried the adapter with a 0ppo A94 mounted on a Meade telescope, the Oppo allows manual camera control (in particular focus, ISO, exposure time, three characteristics in my opinion fundamental to obtain acceptable results).
1- I insert the phone into the adapter after placing a thin spacer to equalize the photo compartment that protrudes a bit on the Oppo
2- I make the circular opening of the adapter coincide with the main camera (the one higher) by moving the phone vertically and horizontally with the appropriate slide.
3- I insert adapter + telephone on the telescope eyepiece.
So far the operations are very simple and after a bit of practice they don't take more than a minute.
Before shooting with 3 seconds of self-timer, I focus on the moon, set ISO 100 and adjust the brightness by acting on the shooting time and set the zoom to 2x. The whole thing is easier to do than to explain.
The adapter overall behaves well and is really simple to fix, but the slide to adjust the phone horizontally seems a bit soft to me and therefore tends to move.
The quality of the photos obviously depends on the quality of the camera optics and the telescope lens, let's not expect who knows what photo!!!!
This is AMAZING! We are on our safari right now and I have to say this device is well worth the money. I am using it on my 10x42 Bushnell HD Bino, and I have an iPhone 13. I was riding in the back (open cage with seats) of a Land Cruiser going over the terrain in the Kalahari Desert, 20 miles south of Botswana (we are rocking and rolling back there). This adapter is easy to get attached, I took my phone off to use the Bino and phone separately and got it back together in the back of the LC with no issue. Also, my phone stayed secure in the adapter and we are rocking around. Using the live mode you can see how much shake was involved if you press the photo. I am including a few photos, the animals are between 100 and 1000 yards, the image quality is due to my Bino/phone, not the adapter.
have binoculars, night vision glasses, a microscope and I've already made wonderful, almost unbelievable discoveries with all devices, which I would love to have captured on photo and shared with someone. The adapter is great for exactly this purpose.
The biggest difficulty for me was to mount my cell phone so that the camera matches the opening. It didn't work without removing my phone case. I accept this fact.
If the mobile phone is then clamped, so to speak, it is very easy to attach it to the eyepiece if the size is between 30 and 50 mm.
It now works the way I wanted it to. Of course, you have to be prepared for the additional weight and set up the tripod securely or, best of all, really use one.
The quality and workmanship of the device are very good, although it is plastic, it looks quite high-quality and durable. Only the instructions are not really useful and not German either.
Step 1: Clamp the adapter securely onto your binocular, telescope, or spotting scope eyepiece (fits 23mm–50mm eyepieces).
Step 2: Slide your phone into the spring-loaded clamp (fits phones 66mm–95mm wide).
Step 3: Align your phone camera lens over the optical hole using the quick-alignment handles and start capturing 4K photos & videos!
